Bowling league software, compared

Where PinPortal sits, who it is really up against, and when you should pick somebody else.

Keep your league software

PinPortal does not replace the program your secretary runs on league night. It reads the file that program already exports, and turns it into your website.

So the real question is not which league software to buy. It is where your standings end up once the night is over.

Your busiest page is the one you gave away

League night ends and, within a day, your bowlers go looking for the standings. They will do it again next week, and the week after that, for thirty odd weeks. It is the most predictable traffic a bowling center’s website will ever have, and every bit of it comes from the customers who already spend the most with you.

Look at almost any center’s League Standings page, though, and you will find a list of links pointing off the site. Some have eight or more, one per league. Some send bowlers to two different platforms. Plenty just post a PDF and hope people can read it on a phone. Either way the visit belongs to somebody else.

Keeping it is worth more than it sounds:

  • The attention is yours. A bowler checking last night’s results is one click from your open play times, your party packages, your pro shop and your kitchen. On someone else’s page they are one click from an advert you did not sell.
  • It keeps bowlers attached between league nights. A profile page with their photo, their average and their best game is something people check on a Tuesday for no reason, and show their friends. That is loyalty you did not have to discount for.
  • It is the best moment you will get to fill next season. Nobody is more receptive to “summer registration is open” than a bowler who just looked up their own average. Put it on the same page and it sells itself.
  • You build a list instead of renting an audience. Bowlers who claim their profile can opt into your emails. You cannot collect that on a platform you do not own, and you cannot take it with you if that platform changes its mind.
  • New bowlers can find you. Real pages get indexed, so a search for your center, your league or a bowler’s name lands on your site. Standings buried in a PDF, or loaded by script after the page arrives, are invisible to Google.

That is the gap PinPortal fills. Your leagues, on your site, under your name, without anyone retyping a score.

Where PinPortal is not the right fit

  • You do not run league software. There is no file to import, so there is no product.
  • You want live scores during league night. We publish afterwards, from the file. Watching standings move while people are still bowling needs a scoring system integration, and LaneTalk or LeaguePals will do it.
  • You do not have a WordPress site. This is a WordPress plugin.

$99.99 a year, or $499.99 once

The price does not move when your leagues grow, and your bowlers are never asked to pay anything. The free version covers three leagues. See the live demo before you decide.
