Setting up digital signage (Pro)

Digital signage turns any screen with a web browser into a self-updating score display.

Steps

  1. Go to League Management → Digital Signage.
  2. Click + Add Device and name the screen (e.g. “Bar TV”). PinPortal generates a unique device key and shows the screen’s kiosk URL, something like https://yoursite.com/signage/xxxxxxxx-…/.
  3. Open that URL in the screen’s browser, full-screen it, and you’re done. Score boards rotate automatically and update within minutes of every import.

Security notes

  • Devices must be created in the admin first: unknown keys are rejected, and repeated bad attempts are rate-limited. Treat each kiosk URL like a password for that screen.
  • Delete a device to immediately cut off its screen.

Each device can be assigned to a group so different screens show different content, e.g. league boards in the bar, promos only at the counter.

Birthday slide

When you use bowler profiles, PinPortal automatically adds a “Happy Birthday” slide to the rotation listing bowlers with a birthday in the next 7 days (month and day only, birth years are never stored). It refreshes every day and on every import. When no birthdays fall in the window, the slide is simply removed from the rotation, an empty board is never shown. You can regenerate it on demand from League Management → TV Score Images → Birthday Slide.

Bowler of the Week

A slide built around one bowler’s photo, with their name, league, team and what they did last week. It is the board people stop and look at, because it has a face on it rather than a table.

Choose how it picks on the Generate TV Images page:

  • The standout. Whoever beat their own average by the most last week. This is the default, and the one worth using: it makes the slide an honour somebody earned rather than a name drawn from a hat. It picks again on its own whenever a new week is imported.
  • At random. Anybody who bowled last week. Also re-picks itself on each new week, and will not repeat itself within the same week.
  • Somebody you choose. Stays until you change it. Never re-picked automatically, because it is a decision you made rather than a calculation.

Only bowlers who have uploaded a profile photo can appear, in every mode including the one where you pick by hand. The slide is built around the picture, so a bowler without one would be a silhouette on a large screen. If somebody you pinned later removes their photo or their profile is hidden, the slide is removed rather than falling back to a silhouette or quietly promoting somebody else.

The same privacy rules as the bowler pages apply throughout, so hidden bowlers, private profiles and youth leagues are never featured.

When nobody qualifies, no slide is generated and the rotation simply skips it, the same way the birthday slide behaves in a week with no birthdays.
